| "Sorry, I'm late" by Rita Medina: So, I've been super busy lately but "alas" I finally have a chance to write a quick review. In short, I loved it. I laughed my ass off! It was witty, clever and smart. Now, true there were a few jokes that went over my head, but BAP was able to appeal to everyone's sense of humor by adding in jokes for us more simple folks. There were puns galore. There were silly sword fights, Benny Hill chase scenes and then there was the Peanuts gang dancing the night away. Being a theatre person I could fully enjoy it for what it was and I think BAP made it clear that people should not walk in expecting to take these UNI alumns too seriously. It was a fun night and a great start to my Fringe Festival experience ----------------- "" by A las a great show: From plagues to dueling, and tea readings to screams...this show was hilarious. A mix of plots and wit...I laughed through it all. A great way to spend an hour at Fringe!!! ----------------- "Mayhem in the Med." by Myron Millfoyle: Now this is a Fringe Festival show! And this is a production company with talent, energy and skill. In amongst the wit and sillyness, one must weap for lack of a better venue. But do these actors need such physical accommodation? Nay! They rush and tumble, trip and fall (dead, frequently) in costumed finery; all the while playing to the house and getting their good words in, around and under the chaos and convulsion. This stuff is not easy! This company is strong--no poor casting or weak performances here. Perhaps there once were some bad actors, but they were likely killed backstage along the way. And the show is full of plague--to be embraced, certainly not avoided. ----------------- "" by zack rose: Very, very funny antidote to "serious theater." No, I'm not sure what happened, but I think that was the point. Had to take away half a star because there were way to many people in that room, both on and off stage. Really, couldn't they have sprung for a larger venue? It's a bit distracting to worry about the actors' safety. Shannon Jones is a standout as Paris/Don Juan. Watch for the "Fun Nazi." ----------------- "Wrecks 'n' Effect" by Michael Shaeffer: Since I've been attending Fringe plays in 2002, this wins at the most bizarre play I've seen at the Fest. If you can brace yourself for an absurd, multi-plot mishmash, you'll be okay. Some of the segues were just flat and bothersome, but every single actor was committed to his or her role, which I did enjoy. Iocasta gets my vote for best scream in the Fringe, and I've seen/heard many so far. ----------------- "A good mix of the classics" by Tracy Funt: The shows was full of wit and puns and a lot of Sophocles and Shakespearean humor. The lines were dripping of a time now past, yet evervescent of the present with a hint of what is happening to theater in the present. This is a great show for anyone who has knowledge of the Classic works of literature. Get there early because it has sold out two nights in a row! The actors are well prepared, and well versed, and the lines are delivered with ease, which was a great joy to see. For those knew to the fringe without a lot of theatre history background, this play might be a little bit more of a challenge, but there are definately some laughs involved for everyone to see. |
